CES 2010: NVIDIA Shows GeForce GF100 Fermi Video Card
Fermi and 3D Blu-ray on GeForce Hardware

With the 2010 edition of CES kicking off tomorrow, we headed to the Digital Experience press only event to get a preview of what will be on display this week. While we saw many things that caught our eye, nothing could top the live demo of NVIDIA's upcoming flagship video card. NVIDIA had the GeForce GF100, or Fermi if you like, up and running the Unigine DirectX 11 benchmark Heaven.

The last time we saw Fermi was at NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conference. This time however, what was on display was clearly a production level video card. All solder points matched up to the now 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors, and the exhaust port for the heat sink was not blocked off.

Performance numbers are hard to come by on the GeForce GF100, but we overheard someone saying that it is around 36% faster than ATI's Radeon HD 5870. When asked to confirm the number, NVIDIA could not comment. We also heard a rumored launch date of March 2nd, 2010 from various people at the show, so it looks like the graphics card is close to coming out.

As you can see from the photo above, Fermi was showcased in a Shift PC put together by Maingear. Some of you may recall that we interviewed Chris Morley of Maingear PC, where we learned about the company and their Shift PC.

In other NVIDIA related news, we got a preview of 3D Blu-ray on a GeForce graphics cards. The preview was courtesy of Cyberlink and their PowerDVD software. Expect to see more coming up in the next couple of days regarding 3D Blu-ray for HTPC's!
