unsaon man pag block bro? kanang dili ma download or dili ma run? or dili ma install?
If you want it blocked sa PC mismo
goto the windows admin panel and theres an option to block spefic programs from running, just add yahoomessenger.exe or any other specific .exe you need to block
unsa mani admin panel? is it control panel? or administrative tools? thanx broOriginally Posted by EarlZ

Consider sad nga daghan na kaayong web-based multi-protocol IMs which have YM as part of their list of offered protocols. Also daghan nasad nakahibalo nga it's as simple as making a copy of yahoomessenger.exe and then renaming this to, say, ym2.exe para ma-bypass ang kasagaran sa mga list based blocking programs.According to Yahoo's website:
"Yahoo! Messenger will automatically search the firewall for an open port, and, if it finds one, use that to connect".
The order in which Yahoo Messenger scans for available ports is:
1. port 5050
2. port 80
3. All available ports
This means that blocking Yahoo Messenger by blocking ports will not work. Yahoo Messenger will only switch ports and use a different one.
Even if you were able to block Yahoo Messenger by this method, your employees or students would just change to Yahoo Web Messenger - which is accessed as a web page in Internet Explorer or other browsers using port 80.
Other information from www.cyberphaze.net (not currently online) gave:
Yahoo! Messenger
Service: remote: port 5050, 5150, and 8000 local: 5101 and 1638
Audio: remote: 5001 local: 1644 and 5000
File transfer: remote: 1614 local: 80/81/82
Webcam: remote: 80 local: 1677
Y!Tunnel
Service: remote: 1455, 5050, 1071, and 1074 local: 8000, 8001, and 1073

lisod na gyud kaayo iblock especially if meebo ang gamiton or other web-based nga I.M. Naa gani toy nangita sa una sa istorya nga alternative to YM kay gi-block sa admin nila ang YM protocol, naka-lusot ra man gihapon tungod kay gamit siya og meebo og uban pa nga web-based IMs.Originally Posted by vrad03
From CERT:

Yahoo! Messenger typically listens for peer-to-peer requests on port 5101/TCP and client-to-server communications on 5050/TCP, but is not limited to these ports. Users can attempt to implement a firewall to block inbound and outbound access to port 5101/TCP, 5050/TCP, or any other port(s) that Yahoo! Messenger chooses to bind a service. However, the Yahoo! Messenger client will attempt to connect to the server through ports 20, 21, 25, 37, 80, and 119 if 5050 is blocked, therefore this may not be a viable nor practical solution for most sites.
its either you block it by port or by ip address. if you have a content/URL filtering in your firewall then you wont find this hard to perform. In my case, i did an IP range block.
