when Android's app store can provide better competition to apple's app store (price and catalog size), then that is the only time the iphone can be killed. The iphone is famous practically because of the thousands of apps available either free or at a fraction of the cost found in other mobile stores. Hardware doesn't really count much since every year something new and more powerful hardware is bound to appear.

No matter how powerful the hardware, without quality softwares to support it, its bound to fail.
Iphone is so popular because of the thousands of apps available at the istore, and third party app developers love to develop apps for the iphone is simply because of the lphone's standardization, developers need not be afraid every year iphone releases a new model, whether its the 2g, 3g or 3gs models, most apps are backwards compatible. That makes the lifespan of iphone apps longer.

So to my opinion, the Nexus one may be good, but for now, its still a longshot to be even considered as an iphone killer.

just a FYI, android marketplace apps jumped from 10,000+ to 20,000+ in just a couple of months after droid was released. with more and more android phones coming out, you bet the number of apps will skyrocket.

im a fan of the Android movement. with apps like Google Goggle, who can deny it's superiority?

But iPhone and Apple in general are lauded not because of the technology they brought, cause really, the technology has always been there. Touch screen? it's been there for a long time. Apps? phones have had installable apps since Symbian and even way back.

iPhone cannot be killed because they actually took technology and made it easier to use for everyone. Leaves you thinking: "now why didn't I think about that?"

Nothing will kill that, it's already embedded in the general consumer's minds. Though I'd still get an Android based phone when it comes here.

still, it's only a matter of time, although it will take more time for the android OS to "sink in" to regular consumers than the iPhone did because people now are more attuned to the "Apple hype".
