Ally McBeal -- Does it ever get good?

So Ally McBeal discs got released on netflix recently, and I decided to give it a chance. I've watched the first two disks (first 8 episodes of season 1) and am pretty unimpressed. I can see how the show MIGHT have some potential. I've enjoyed some other slow-starting shows in the past.
So bottom line, does this show pick up dramatically at some point, or should I follow my instincts and stop watching after 8 episodes?

Ally McBeal was a hit in the 90's for specific reasons. None of which apply to people who are living in 2009.
