CEBU, Philippines - A woman, working as associate engineer of one of the companies inside the Mactan Export Processing Zone, was raped before she was robbed inside her room by an unidentified man early morning yesterday in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.
The 24-year-old victim is a native of Iligan City but temporary residing in the place where she is renting a room.
Police investigation showed that the victim came home at around 3 a.m. and while she was changing her clothes, a man suddenly appeared from under her bed and subsequently pointed an ice pick at her.
Allegedly because of extreme fear, she was not able to shout for help and the suspect succeeded in raping her, despite her plea to just take all her belongings and leave.
After raping her, the man allegedly took away the victim’s laptop, digital camera, cellular phone and cash and fled.
The victim immediately called Tomas Tomalge, the owner of the room she was renting who then called for assistance from barangay tanods.
The tanods, together with the police searched for the suspect but they failed to locate him.
The victim reportedly did not recognize the suspect as she has not seen his face among the residents of the place.
Based on ocular investigation, the man was able to get inside the victim’s room detaching the one of the jalousie blades of her room and reached for the doorknob. Once inside, the suspect allegedly returned the jalousie blade so she would not get suspicious that somebody had broken into her room.
Combined forces of the Crime Against Property Unit and Women’s and Children’s Desk of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office are now conducting a thorough investigation on the incident for the possible identification of the criminal. — Niña G. Sumacot with Bong Soriano of Banat News/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
