Which is better for music/video application? Intel or AMD? Please post pros and cons.

    Thanks in advance.

If you want to buy one right now AMD holds the performance crown, if you want to buy a few weeks from now get Conroe from intel aka core 2 due

if you can wait till next next year for Intel, buy core kay murag next year pa na available sa pinas.

Pentium D (Dual Core) is good for office applications
But not good for gaming.. =)

is dual core only efficient in multitasking? what if usa ra ang ga run nga application?

bisan usa ra ang application ga run kay magamit gihapon ang 2 cores.
1 for OS, 1 for application.

For music/video apps, better ang intel because better iyang multitasking which is good for DAW + plugins+ soft synths etc.. Right now, AMD has the speed compared to intel, however, cheaper sab ang intel but hotter.
Another thing to consider would be price. Expensive ang amd compared to intel.
For example a cheap dual core na intel like the pentium D820 is 8k+. A comparable price AMD processor would be the athlon 64 3200+venice socket 939 single processor which is also 8k+.

If you go to this site:
    http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.ht...=67&model2=247

you can compare both processors' rendering times in pinnacle studio 9 plus, 92sec intel vs. 140sec AMD

of course its a comparison between a single and a dual core, but you have to remember that they are about the same price, so you can buy a cheap intel dual core for the price of a good single core AMD.

Or if you want a dual core comparison using pinnacle again, the intel penetium D 820 takes 92sec vs. the cheapest AMD Athlon X2 3800+ takes 93sec but the price also is 8k+ for the D820 and 18k+ for the X2 3800+, thats more than double the price for the same video encoding performance!! In mp3 audio encoding, like lame and main concept, the athlon is much faster,
but just about even for multitasking.
Part of the performance merits of the D820 though is due in part of its use of the faster DDR2 667 ram as compared to the older DDR400 ram the Athlon uses.

Check out the site for yourself, and compare it with what people here say but remember some of them do have preferences and sometimes biases.

Price barato ang Pentuim D pero kurente kusog moikaon mas dako paka magasto for the next to years, PD's TDP is 95W while ang Athlon64 65W ra, kng e based in sa system with load:

    PD 805 = 258W
    Athlon 64 =172W

Thats around 86W higher than athlon, kng imong monthly electric using athlon64 is 300 pesos for 1 destop pc alone ,example lng, kng mo shift ka sa PD 805 you"ll pay more 86W more or less, 86W e ration nato sa 300:172 = X:86 ,here in "X" is the price in peso of 86W,w/c =150 pesos, so using PD 805 monthly electricbill kag 300+150 =450 pesos, unya kng 150 e times nato 12 bali for one year 1800 pesos, kng sa internet cafe pani nga daghan ug PC save kayo using athlon, nya maayo raba 1 year lng nato gamiton atong PC, for the next year 1800 pesos napud, nya nagkamahal raba ang kuryente.

Can you back-up you claim on how DDR2-667 can be faster than a DDR400 ? even a DDR2-800 struggles to beat a DDR400 speed wise.

The DDR2 has NOTHING to do with intels performance on those software, because they are purely coded under intel processor optimization such as HT and SSE3 and other core specific instruction set that Intel has, AMD on the other hand only uses SS3 and RAW processor power even if you ticked 3dnow and 3dnowpro+ theres zero difference in performance why ? coz AMD never botherd to tie up with those companies to make those softare run faster on their processor.

and lastly factoring out the cost AMD currently holds the top 3 performance crown on that said review, Until conroe is out that is.

Intel Dual core has been here for ages, If you mean Conroe you may have forgotten that Philippines is extremely near to malaysia and it would be impossible for us to be late with conroe specially with conroes dirt cheap prices.
