Need help please regarding OS

it happened when i was scanning my laptop with malware/adware remover as i was aware that my lappy top is infected with something nasty( i noticed that my laptop is running very slow..loading times were unbearable lol) then after scanning it prompted me to restart to completely remove some viruses.. after that a windows validation thingy appeared it says i need to verify my windows(no icons no start menu button, task bar etc. everything was totally locked) by typing the activation code, luckily im still able to surf the net by noticing a glitch(when clicking the go to the site thingy), i tried altering the registry changing the product key etc but still it wont work.. need help please

i can tell your using windows xp home edition which is very sensitive when it comes to genuine. next time change the settings in your windows automatic updates or disable it.
