Default Question - how much is the average cost of running your computer?

Bossing question - I just want to know how much am i paying to play with my computer?

say the average consumption watts of my computer is 500watts (with monitor/fans/sound system without aircon).

the current rate is 6peso per kph (plus there's a lots of extra charges).

so is it safe to say that im paying close to 5 peso per hour?

just wondering if SLI is worth the cost - it's around additional 200-300watts.

    sakto ba computation?

average bill before 4k per month and now it's close to 6k per month.
    im sure it's my computer.

    ^_^

how many hours man ka mag dula every day? and unsa specs sa imo card para add up nato watts sa imo whole system computed lang dili actual kay assume lang ta sa imo power consumption.

its not just your computer. if you run the AC while playing games, mutaas jud kay you spend more hours on the computer with AC man. :P i don't think a 2K increase is completely attributed to the computer ra.

    currently using corei7 + gtx260

base sa ako computation, it should be around 300-500watts overall average.
im not sure if this translate to 1kwh every 2 hrs.

playing average of 2-4hrs per day.

planning to SLI now, expected increase in power consumption of 150-300watts.

mahal na kaayu kuryente. so, i just need to know how to compute the average cost of running your computer.

does 500watts total equates to 1khw ever 2hrs?

No, you need to know the actual power draw of your system from the wall socket.. the draw is dependent on the ff:

    1. All hardware connected (system, monitor, speakers, ups, avr etc)
    2. Usage patterns (if you notice the graph, if your pc is on idle, it consumes less power)

Kung i920 + gtx 260 then your consumption ranges from 119 to 270watts plus monitor wattge plus any other device. You factor in how many hours you use the pc and how heavy your utilization is... that should give you a better estimate of your consumption.

Typically , a 22in monitor uses up 40watts when on. (that same monitor consumes 9 watts when plugged in but turned off...)

Also note that devices like the monitor, ups, avr, transformer, printer consume power when idle and may even consume power even when turned off. Ive observed this with a watt meter first hand... thats why I recommend you use a power strip with individual switches to turn off devices completely when not in use.

In your case, id estimate around 175 to 250 watts average draw from the main socket.

If you can enumerate all electrical devices connected... I can come up with a more accurate estimate.

    btw,

the GTX260 is actually pretty good in terms of idle power consumption... at least better performance per watt than 48xx series sa ATI.

@vipvip68 how about the powercolor man cguro to or radeon 4850? apil ni siya sa kusog mo suyop?

for idle power consumption ..yes. Many owners of Single slot 4850s can attest to the heat produced by the card

A 4850 consumes more watts than a gtx 260 when idle... around 9 to 12 watts depending on the tests.

But on full power, the 4850 and 4870 consumes less than the gtx 260

The thing here is that the 4850 is supposed to be compared with the GTS 250 while the 4870 is compared to the gtx 260...

Performance / watt wise, I believe videocards still have a lot of room for improvement... the 4770 is a step in the right direction... hope we can have more efficient cards in the future. The thought of 700 to 1000w psus are starting to get ridiculous for me. This reminds me of P4 days where they had to redesign the case (BTX) and make huge cpu coolers since they couldnt make efficient cpus.
