Default Call Center HR/Recruitment People: Some questions for you.

If you were to choose between a very experienced applicant who happens to be an undergrad and a graduate with little or no experience, who would you hire? If so, why? Please explain.

What factors led to the decision of making "completed at least 2 yrs of college" a company standard among most, if not all, call centers nowadays? Please explain its relevance to the job description.

Would you rather hire someone who is an undergrad with 2 yrs of college but with backsubjects, very fluent in English, average to above average computer skills and good work ethics or would you rather hire someone with average fluency in English, average computers skills and a college graduate?

Furthermore, what really puzzles me is that I really don't see any relevance to the job description. What can a graduate do that an undergrad can't do? Specifically, what can a 3rd year level undergrad do that a 2nd year level undergrad can't also do? And to really push the envelope here, what can a 2nd year undergrad with no back subjects do that a 2nd year undergrad with back subjects can't do? This is beside the point of getting better grades or finishing more units than the other.

Shouldn't the standards be: of legal age (so you can sign a contract and work, in general), good command of the English language with little or no accent (this also means someone that can read, write and spell English, with little or no mistakes in grammar), good EQ (mature enough to handle and take irrate calls), someone that's punctual (tardiness is a sin), one that's average or above average in computers (so you don't have to call I.T. every time to fix a simple problem)? ? ? ?

Please enlighten us all. If most of the clients of call centers are Americans or countries that speak English, shouldn't these qualifications be enough? In America, for example, you can get hired for a job just as long as you can be trained and you can do the job. It doesn't matter what level of education you have. Does the term Equal Opportunity Employment ring a bell? This entails no discrimination in race, age, skin color, level of education, etc.

The requirement says "At Least" 2nd year college, if you're a graduate of 4 or 5 years course it doesn't mean that you're not hirable. You may even have the edge over undergrads considering that you have the same skills, english fluency, computer, etc.etc.

However, if the undergrad is an experienced one, then it is logical to hire him cause he will know what and how to do the job.

Training is not a guarantee that one can perform on the floor. so, most companies hire the experienced ones.

But it all boils down to if you really need the job. During the interview show it to them that you NEED and LOVE this job. Don't forget to use your charm, Smile!

Dude, the moment I said "2nd year with backsubjects", she made me stop. But hey, if they want to spend MORE time training a graduate, they can have it. Later on this graduate is just gonna leave them after a year or so to work in their chosen field.
