Mag-aso Falls flash flood victims buried
MARIBOJOC – The barangay folks of Aliguay of this town mourned the passing of their son Neil Mark Flores, 23, who was buried the other day and so with his close friend Al Benson Lupos, 21, Tutolan, Dauis, Bohol .
Both are victims of the unexpected tragedy in the form of flash floods that swept them instantly while taking bath at Mag-aso Falls in the neighboring town of Antequera . Their lifeless bodies were found in barangay Busao, Maribojoc town downstream two days after they were drowned on June 30, 2009 due to the rampaging flash floods.
But fate had it that Neil Mark and Al Benson were not as lucky as their close barkada Abner Ledesma of barangay Mayacabac, Dauis town, who was the only survivor of the misfortune.
Neil Mark Flores was waiting for the result of his nursing board examination, which is expected to be released this month, said his mother Nestoria Flores, a former member of the Association of United Development Information Officers (AUDIO). He was a graduate in nursing at Bohol Institute of Technology.
Nestoria Flores was told that a buhawe or water spout occurred upstream after the heavy rain on that day.
The three (Neil Mark, Al Benson and Abner) did not notice the upcoming floods that pass through a narrow falls. They were maybe caught offguard, Nestoria Flores said.
A certain Bobby Henderson, a foreigner that visited the Falls on the same day took a shot of the angry Falls. But prior to the flash floods, a placid Falls was shot by Henderson in his blog. Henderson said after a few seconds or minutes while taking the shots, a rampaging water falls start to disgorge heavy murky water even without rain.
He even took a shot of the three barkadas looked like taking shelter at the cave just beside the waterfalls. After that they were nowhere to be found. (RVO)
