Being a registered nurse came in handy for a Negros policeman who helped a 22-year-old mother deliver a baby girl aboard a police patrol vehicle in Bacolod City last Wednesday. The News Today (
The News Today Online - Iloilo News and Panay News) reported that SPO1 Regie Pigar helped Rena Diones of Linawon village in Cauayan City deliver her baby girl. Pigar was a registered nurse before he entered the police force. According to the report, Diones was on her way to Bacolod City via a Ceres Liner bus when she felt she was about to give birth. This prompted the bus driver to stop along the national highway and seek the help of policemen in the patrol car. Policemen aboard a patrol vehicle from nearby Ilog Police Station were on their way to Cauayan town to turn over a 60-year-old male victim they rescued from a fishpond there.
Diones was transferred to the patrol vehicle of Ilog PNP with Inspector Antonio Talatala, chief of police, directed the driver to proceed to the nearest hospital. But before the car could reach the Isio District Hospital in Cauayan, Diones delivered her healthy baby girl. Talatala praised his men for their timely action and response, particularly Pigar who showed calmness and professionalism. Negros Occidental police director Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix lauded the Ilog PNP personnel under Talatala's command for their heroic acts and timely action in an emergency case.
