Default Today is the day when television goes all-digital.

By law, full-power television stations nationwide must begin broadcasting exclusively in a digital format by June 12, 2009. Digital television, or DTV, is a technology that gives viewers crystal-clear pictures and sound, and more programming choices than ever before.
While the benefits of digital television are remarkable, you may be at risk of losing reception if you have not taken the easy steps to receive a digital signal. We're here to help you make a smooth transition.

This move was spawned by this Gartner report...

Gartner Says Future of TV Will Require Channel Integration

...among other things that pressed the networks to morph into another mode of technology that will allow it to integrate better with the web and etc.

Basically, if television doesn't adapt to how people use the internet nowadays, then television (as we know it) will die a natural death. I mean, if you had a shampoo company, and you wanted to advertise your shampoo on TV, and people used TIVO, thus eliminating the need to watch your advertisement, would you still advertise on TV? So, you don't, and several hundred companies would also stop advertising on TV...so how will the TV networks earn money? Simple...they die.
