Former rebel leader Sotero Llamas was shot dead by
three masked gunmen in front of his house in Tabaco City in Albay Monday morning, DZMM reported.
Initial reports said Llamas was riding a multi-cab van in between Barangays Tagas and San Roque when he was waylaid by three gunmen on board motorcycles at 8:30 a.m. The report said Llamas was shot three times in the face.
He died while being rushed to the Amando C. Cope Memorial Hospital in Tabaco City.
His driver, Marciano Bitara Jr., 56, was injured in the shooting.
Llamas, also known as Ka Nognog, was a former New People's Army commander in the Bicol region and was
a member of the National Democratic Front peace panel.
He ran in the gubernatorial race during the 2004 elections in Albay but lost to Governor Fernando Gonzales.
He was also
included in a list of 51 persons charged with rebellion for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Arroyo last February.
Chief Superintendent Victor Buco, Bicol police chief, said he has formed a task force to investigate the killing. Task Force Llamas will be headed by Senior Superintendent Cecilio Calleja.
Tsk, tsk, tsk before its the Sparrow unit that wil liquidate government men. Now, its different. Its the government liquidating the rebels everyday. It also includes journalists. This is state terrorism.
