    Lightbulb VB6: Going to extinction?

I was just wondering guys if this is the destiny of this programming language. I have a friend of mine who applied for a job and was asked by the interviewer on what programming he is familiar with and my friend answered VB6, but to his surprise he was told back that it was obsolete nowadays. Hmmmm... Reactions hehehehhe

VB is official long time dead... since 2002 I think, but still used a lot here.

Delphi is a better option than vb in the windows platform.

hmmm.. im a vb programmer..not necessarily vb6 but vb itself..

there are others here who relate vb6 as vb. one version doesn't represent the whole language.

to say the least i would think vb6 is indeed going to extinction.but many companies nowadays still use vb6 not for development but to maintain their existing system. upgrading would be costly thats why they still maintain it in vb6.

as for VB itself, i would hardly disagree that its dying. during the 1.1 framework era, vb or the .net itself had a lot of problems considering that the framework was on its infancy. and vb developers at microsoft were having a big problem dealing with vb6 developers going to .net which is more Object oriented than the vb6 which is object based.

now for vb8 or vb 2005, things got better and i for one could say vb is definitely better specially going to vb9 or vb 2008 where they introduced the lambda expressions.

for the upcomming release of vb which is vb10, things really got better and better for the community. well first, Paul Vick came back for the VB Team at Microsoft and last but not the least, VB just goes DLR...

so to answer your question, yes vb6 is definitely going obsolete. and for those who say vb is dying then no, vb6 doesn't represent the whole vb language.

Delphi is an easy to learn language, and does not need any more code than VB.
You just drag and drop the controls on the form, assign properties and events and like VB, adding code to the click event for example.

of course vb6 is going to extinction and that's the reality. we need to embrace the fact that everything is just temporary.
