Default How do I reformat my laptop? (HP dv2000)

I'm planning on reformatting my laptop since it is starting to get really "dirty" and I like to keep my computers clean. It is a HP Pavilion dv2000.

I already have all the drivers downloaded and burned.
My problem is, this laptop has a legit copy of Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium pre-installed.
Obviously, when I reformat, I will lose this legit copy (for those who don't know, manufacturers don't provide the discs to any pre-installed software). To make things worse, I don't have the product box with me because this was brought in from the U.S., and the box was left there.
How do I re-install Vista and still have my legit copy?
If all else fails, I'll just do some "shady" work :P. I just don't want to lose this original copy of Vista.

HP has a "Recovery Manager", I haven't used it yet, and I don't know if it's the best option right now, but in case it doesn't work or it messes my system up, I will need to reformat.

suway lang boss tanaw unsa nga version sa vista imo ug unsa nga build then DL nalang torrent sa vista installer ana then install using the code under the laptop. i dont think its really considered piracy kay you already paid for the genuine copy. but then again, i could be wrong. lol.

bro, gamita lang ang hp recovery na program para mu reformat. dili na ka in-need sa mga drivers kay after reformat niya, automatic man niya i-install all appliable updates (dili siya latest but the drivers that came with the laptop)

but if ganahan ka... download ka sa LATEST na drivers then ikaw ikaw nalang reformat, install vista with the serial sa ilawm sa imu laptop. download kag torrent sa vista na applicable sa imu laptop. if x86 imu laptop, download kag x86 na version sa vista, otherwise, adtu ka sa x64.

but naay disadvantage ang ikaw ikaw magreformat. mawala ang boot record kay ma-alter siya so you won't be able to boot to hp's recovery program na. baleh mawala na iyang bisa. maglisud nuun kag pabalik ana..

GOD Bless!!! [hope nakatabang ku.. ehhehe]

^ just skimmed over the links you gave, but if I do the Recovery Manager, I don't have to burn anything to DVD (other than my backups, of course)?

bro, if naa kay other partition aside from the partition that is being used by your OS, and it's named somehow with the "HP" or "Recovery" words, then that would be the recovery partition. That is usually 7 GB in size. That partition contains all files that are needed to reformat and restore your laptop back to its factory condition.

But if wala kay recovery partition but you have restore DVD/s, then you can use that to restore your laptop. Only, you need to insert that DVD and run the program "Recovery Manager".

If wala kay recovery partition and wala sad kay DVD, then probably, malas ka. You need to order the DVD restore disk/s sa HP gyud. And i guess that will cost you money of course.

But most of HP's laptops today come preinstalled with the Recovery partition in which it gives the user no hassle in restoring their laptops. So most probably, you have a recovery partition in your laptop. To be sure, just open "Computer" and look for the second partition.

If you want, you can burn a restore disk and delete the partition. But better stay away from this unless you really need that 7GB of space. hehehheh...

    NOTE:

About backups: if you need to backup your files, you can do so by burning it to DVD's or transferring it to external Hard Drives. Also, there is a backup option in the "Recovery Manager" which backups your files and documents before they reformat your laptop. But I'm not so sure about this because I never used this option. My files and documents are stored in the PC and not in the laptop so there are nothing to backup. hehehhehe... But to be sure, just burn your own backup. heheheheh...

    GOD Bless!!!
