:P :P :P
andrew lloyd webber's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
already showing at cebu moviehouses.
of all the adaptations (there's at least more than ten wordwide), this is the best musical adaptation of the story of the "le phantome de l'opera" a story meant to scare people (a classic horror story). (the best horror adaptation is the one where Robert Englund played the phantom. the weirdest adaptation is the one where Julian Sands played the phantom and had *** with a rat in the sewer)
the cast shone brightly as stars in their own right.
minnie driver played the diva's part (la carlotta) comically (as was meant) and her singing voice with an italian accent is also good.
emmy rossum (playing christine - the lead) who was last seen in "the day after tomorrow" beautifully played her role as an understudy-turned-star (with the help of the phantom both musically and by eliminating potential competitors). her voice sounds so innocent and beautiful. my only problem with her (or with the director/camera man) is that there was a lot of angles that she seemed to appear common/ordinary/plain.
gerard butler (last seen as angelina jolie's irish love interest in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life) played the part of the Phantom of the Opera with haunting credibility. His singing voice reflects the troments and eternal conflicts the phantom is supposed to be feeling. His ambivalence (love/hate) towards Christine is also very well expressed.
patrick wilson (last seen in the film "the alamo") was also good as raoul - christine's childhood sweetheart and love interest. his voice is also refreshing. their duet (with emmy rossum) singing "that's all i ask of you" is so moving that if you have ever been inlove with someone (other than yourself) - you will definitely stare on the screen and can't help but be swept to a memorable place.
the production is very good - it captured the spirit of france in the old times and the supporting cast did the movie justice.
kewl! im on it... you guys wanna watch the movie together?

if you have the passion for musicals and stage plays....i guess you'll like this movie...^_^
sorry if previously i was only able to "elaborate" what i thought about the movie with three smilies. i posted it just after watching the movie. it was hella good. :P
to those who haven't seen it, i highly recommend it especially for those people who can appreciate musicals. it was a great experience. i was only able to watch it once at gaisano country mall and i think i'd like to watch it again. the story is moving and a bit heartbreaking as well (the fact that christine was not in love with the phantom at all). i love the part when raoul and christine started singing say you love me. :P
so true. her annoying primadonna character was well-played. she was in fact funny. she was good with the accent. :POriginally Posted by pazuzu690
