@vahnessuh ... you must not have been in Canada long to say that Canadian/American food is bland. Get around. Canada might be small (population-wise), but the US is big and varied. Also, most of the things you get in Cebu can be had in North America with a little know-how.

vern: it is bland. even my american born and raised husband doesn't like american cuisine. he's from hawaii and he prefers the cuisine of other ethnicities. besides, isn't this a matter of individual taste and preference? i've long lived on chinese, japanese and a little bit of indian cuisine. the only american cuisine i like would be mcdonald's or burger king.

vancouver is very varied. it has more immigrant population than the caucasian and first nations population. lots of chinese, japanese, korean, indian, persian, spanish, italian and filipinos. i think the same goes for every major city in canada with calgary, toronto and quebec.

one thing i couldn't get here in north america are really cheap pearls. where can you get a strand of decent freshwater pearls for 10 dollars?

Sure it's a matter of taste and preference, but can one knowing their limited exposure to the United States, which includes most Americans, really say that "American" food is bland? Many parts of the US have their own cuisine, from the Big Easy to the Big Apple. McDonalds or Burker King might be popular, but they are not what people would call traditional American food, so if your basis for "bland" is based on fast food instead of a home cooked dinner, then you have no basis at all.

Vancouver may be varied. Canada may be varied ... but the US is at LEAST a hundred times more varied. The fact is, US is the biggest melting pot in the world and that gives the US lots of influences in cuisine ... which even though have roots in different countries ... have become very uniquely American.

As for freshwater pearls, all I said was it can be found, I never said it was going to be cheap nor easily accesable from where you are.

vern, i'm not arguing with you about which country is better. and about cuisine, you know, i think it's so trivial to argue about something like that. if you like to make generalizations about people based on their food preference, go ahead. not everyone is a connoisseur like you. my husband only lived in the islands, west coast and middle america... and only went on a cross country trip with his high school friends... but of course, that doesn't mean anything.

i've eaten at restaurants, not just fast food, thank you very much.

@ VANESSA .... when you say your husband is BORN and RAISE in Hawaii ( A US state ) , I pressume he is really an ISLANDER rather than CAUCASIAN , like FIlipinos and other races , we prefer food that we are used to . When speaking of food that is BLAND , that is probably based on where you ate at .
