CATHOLICS RESPOND TO DA VINCI CODE CRAZE
Philadelphia, May 02, 2006 (CNA) - Several books and resources have been developed by Catholics to set the record straight about the false claims made about their faith in Dan Brown’s bestselling fiction novel, The Da Vinci Code, the film version of which will be released in theatres May 19.
The Catholic Church has given its imprimatur to “The Da Vinci Deception: 100 Questions and Answers about the Facts and Fiction of The Da Vinci Code,” published by Ascension Press.
The 144-page book counters allegations made by The Da Vinci Code. An imprimatur is an official declaration that a literary work is free from errors in Catholic doctrine and morals. It was granted by Cardinal Justin Rigali, archbishop of Philadelphia.
Carl Olson of Eugene, Oregon has also written “The Da Vinci Hoax,” a 340-page, heavily footnoted book that seeks to debunk many of Brown’s assertions about Jesus, Mary Magdalene and the Catholic Church. Olson and his co-author Sandra Miesel have been giving talks around the country to mostly Catholic audiences.
In Malta, the Catholic Church will issue a manual that responds to questions raised by the novel in mid-May. The Institute of Pastoral Formation will organize other events and initiatives on themes raised by the book.
Dan Brown's Novel is just fiction.........................
A fiction with so many twisted facts and lies. The Catholic Church should act. That the book is a fiction (which I doubt) should not be a reason why Catholics should not stand up to it.
Whatever you say man.............but at least we got something in common...........which is......we shouldn't believe in something fictitious...............
the catholic church should teach the people about what is fiction and is facts...
kay sa tinud-anay lang daghan taw ga too nga kaning book/salida is base on facts.
kung wa maabot ang da vinci code di manggimok ang mga katoliko nga mura'g mga kumong-kumong. kapuliki lagi panagang mura'g gikilatan. for me, this work of fiction is a blessing in disguise to make the people aware and give them perspective of their religion. most people were born and died inside the religion without being aware of it, just like inside the Matrix.
Yeah, that's true........at least people who are curious enough will make their own research regarding their own religion.............just like after seeing star wars or star trek.......people started to explore the possibilities of other intelligent civilizations in other planets and the idea of travelling beyond the speed of light..................

Well, the enemies of the Church is always on the offensive because they are the one who want to sow chaos and confusion to all people. They are wolves who stalk the sheeps. The wolves always target the shepherd so that the sheeps will scatter.
They should just have ignore it the more attention they will give the more it will have media exposure and im sure the more theater tickets this movie will generate.
