Unhappy Dental Extraction (procedures, prices, bad dentists)

    Hi all,

I just had two of my teeth extracted today. One of which is a wisdom tooth. They are not impacted meaning nakita pa ang puti sa tango so dili xa lisod kuhaon. There were two dentists, one is just a plain dentist and the other one was a surgeon (or so I thought).
They had charged me 1500php just for the wisdom tooth extraction. The other tooth was just covered by the HMO from my company. Dili ba siya over pricing ra?
They even just used local types of anethesia.
During the dental operation, I saw the dentist on the mirror nga nag signal-signal sa surgeon na 1,500 ang i charge sa akoa then murag mag tunga sila.
I am just wondering kon tinood ba sakto ra ang charge.

I am hoping to get some advice.

    Thanks!

hi lance! i'm sorry you had a bad experience with your dentist. aside from being a general practitioner, i'm an oral surgeon and i also do surgeries for impacted teeth.

dentists usually charge a little higher for third molar extractions because of its position and the complications involving the tooth. third molars are located near the mandibular nerve and major blood vessels, and its location makes it difficult to remove. it is also the teeth with most abnormalities; meaning, the shape of the roots of the tooth are unpredicatable and may complicate extraction. ang pagcharge depende ra gyud sa case sa tooth.

even during surgery, we dentists use local anesthesia. we only use general anesthesia for severe cases and when the patient requests for it. so sakto ra to nga local anesthesia ila gigamit. i hope i clarified some of your concerns.

I had a third molar extraction for P3,000. I think you had the better luck than me. Pero the dentist (and his assistant, i think assistant ra na sila, intern or something) mentioned na my operation was the most difficult he had daw considering forked ang root sa ako molar, took almost 3 hours, and was bleeding intra-op. So yeah, he charged full.

ugh, as if dili ko kasabot niingon siya'g "OS STAT!!" >:E was painful like hell.

ohhhhh, thanks so much for the information. I never should have known. My operation just finished really quickly though because it was not impacted and it's not that complicated too.
Now, I can justify the price and I think that's just reasonable then..
    Thanks again...

At least now, I won't suffer from toothache no more... hehehe

Moreover, I'm aware that dentists are our friends and that they are operating in their profession for what is right for us and our teeth; but after that operation, you probably can't just help but shout to them, "Go die in a fire!" hihi :P

    peace.

Pero kahibaw ko na mubalik pa ko. There's still round 2 sa ako right side.>:E

    To Dentistako:

I'm 16 weeks preggy and been having a bad toothache. I got a molar tooth with cavity I was suppose to have it extracted but found out I was preggy. Pwede ba magpa tooth extraction bisan preggy? Any other pain reliever you can suggest?

  10. #10
@ D@rkAng3L: we usually do only emergency dental procedures for pregnant patients. it is best to delay treatment until after the pregnancy. during pregnancy, 2nd trimester is the safest. as to pain relievers, paracetamol is the safest. you can also take ibuprofen or naproxen sodium but it is not safe for the 3rd trimester.
