What exactly is the difference between a shared and non-shared video memory? Which one is better?
shared video memory is applicable only to motherboards with built-in GPUs (on-board) because manufacturers cannot or do not want to add a memory exclusively for the on-board GPU (cost, practicality, etc. reasons), these GPUs share the system memory (RAM) and use it as a frame buffer.
now, your processor is also using the memory to gain faster access to programs that you are using and so the resulting additional traffic causes overall system performance to go down.
if you are to provide the GPU with its own memory, you're basically giving the GPU exclusive access to a frame buffer while your CPU on the other hand also has exclusive access to the system RAM.
manufacturers do not have enaf reasons to put in separate memory for IGP's kay they are expecting evrybody not to use the IGP, pang emergency ra man gyud purpose ana IGP.
if nag tipid ka thats why you go with mobo nga nay igp
if naa ka budget go with a dedicated gpu hibaw naka what benefits ana
i think dedicated GPU ram is faster than shared. ive got an old X300 on a pc that does just that, when i had 512ram the video took 256mb, now ive upgraded to 2gb the vcard ram takes up 512mb. hehe expandable yeah but not necessarily better. its still an old card xD
