Cebu’s who’s who avoiding the rush
for biggest night before Sinulog 2009

Cebuano personalities have begun reserving choice seats even before Christmas for what is turning into the biggest pre-Sinulog 2009 concert of three Philippine divas – Kuh Ledesma, Pops Fernandez and Zsa-Zsa Padilla.

Along with friends Jed Madela and Eric Santos, the three Philippine divas performing on the same stage at the Grand Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino promises an experience that has yet to happen in this Queen City of the South.

“I don’t want to miss the experience,” said a young female resto-bar owner who bought half-a dozen tickets for her barkada for front seats.

A pleasantly surprised Bong Bantilan of BCB Productions could not believe the response even before the full publicity plan for the event could even start. “Word of mouth pa lang na.”

Helping him push the show are his friends within the local designers and modeling community along with PRWorks, Inc.

Similar gatherings of the Philippine divas at the Araneta Coliseum and Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City had been sold-out affairs filling the already tense atmosphere with excitement beyond the brim.

Tension definitely emanates when divas with different styles and personalities meet on stage though they vehemently deny any rivalry between them.

“Rivalry … is not our cup of tea,” said the enticing seductress Esperanza “ Zsa-Zsa” Padilla right before their jam-packed concert in the United States.

“We’ve our own individuality and peculiar style as performers. We just give the best we could to entertain and please our audience. Nothing sort of rivalry or exerted effort to over-shadow the other… neither of these was an option,” clarified the soulful-eyed concert queen Pops Fernandez.

Top officials of a regional government agency likewise reserved choice seats for friends and family. An aide said they missed the event in Manila early this month. Another group of eligible bachelor-businessmen said they won’t miss the encounter with the divas. “It’s the event of the season. Everybody will be there.”

Aside from their sponsorship, the country’s top telecom company SMART has arranged for several dozens of tickets for a show that starts Cebu’s week of Sinulog parties with a bang.

The once in a lifetime concert in Cebu is also supported by Alain O. Senerpida M.D., GT Cosmetics, the San Remegio Beach Club, Hacienda Isabella, Microtel, The Ching Palace, KIA Motors, Shakey’s Pizza, Nature’s Spring Water, Alcordo and Associates, GMA 7, Y101, Sun.Star Publishing Network, Cebu Daily News, The Freeman, and Advance. The show will benefit “I Can Serve” and the SOS Children’s Village.

hi peeps, i watched this concert last night and i wanna share my 'review'. being an offshoot from a big version in manila, the concert was pretty incredible. by this i mean, it was well-prepared, well-thought of, and well-rehearsed. the costumes were incredible, the performances were great, and the adlibs were quite fun. it benefited from a good musical arrangement and direction. i have nothing else to say but positive things about the whole show. it wasn't a half-baked concert as i thought it would be that may be given to cities outside manila. i hope more concerts like that one would be offered by our filipino artists here. the three 'divas' were truly splendid in their numbers and it looked like they fun doing them. also, eric and jed (guest performers) were equally good claiming tremendous cheers from the audience. to top it all, it was a looong 3-hour show, definitely sulit.
