Im not sure if the body and flash they use is a Nikon made in " planet earth" or modify nikon kinda look so different, But those Lenses are Obviously Nikon (Dark side)

The Official DLSR of NASA is the Nikon D2Xs with some modifications per requirement for Space use. Astronauts were also trained how to use it properly by the Nikon Team. Lucky guys with all of those gear free of charge from the US Government. They're also using a Thinkpad on board the space shuttle.

Nikon has always been the 35mm camera system choice for NASA since the sixties till today. For medium format they used Hasselblads during the lunar missions, I dont know if they still use this today.

Yes they do.

203FE's with Distagon FE 2.8/50 mm, Planar FE 2/110 mm and Tele-Tessar FE 4/250 or 350 mm lens.


My source tells me that NASA may soon plan to use H2D-39's but no confirmation of this yet. I personally believe that the reason behind this is that more common resolutions available are sufficient for surface photography, because after all, surface imaging now is a whole new ballgame with satellites. However, the move for H2D-39's can only mean one thing--they're preparing it (and its successor models) for the moon. Which is only poetic justice, because HB's were the first still cameras to be used on it.

NASA still has a standard (film) imaging lab, and thus they still employ film cameras such as HB's and heavily modified Linhofs.

BTW, the official NASA Nikons used in surface imagery are D1's and D2X's...other Nikon models photographed on board the STS or the ISS are either probably NMS (non-mission-specific) or personal units owned by the astronauts.
