    Default vista, linux and vmware networking problem


    Hello.

    I am using VMWare 6.

    I have a problem on setting up the internet connection on my GUEST ArchLinux.

    Host is Windows Vista.

    u have to create virtual NAT from your guest ArchLinux to route the network to your host in which your VISTA will act as the Virtual NAT Server.. got it? search for google about Virtual NAT..

    You can use a NAT or bridged setup for the vmware network interface. NAT might be easier. Once the NIC is set up, make sure that the linux system finds it, then set up IP addressing. If you are using gnome or kde, set up the IP address and gateway IP (IP address of the Windows box). Make sure firewalls on both machines are not blocking traffic.

    If you go bridged, it is a matter of making sure the IP addresses of both host and guest are in the same network and can see each other (confirm by pinging).

    Also, a NAT is different from plain routing. You need different IP networks. If you are already using a private IP address (e.g. 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) on the Vista box, go for a bridged setup, unless you are willing to read up on subnetworking.
