Distance learning will get better as virtual worlds get more and more sophisticated. Right now, several US/European based universities have virtual campuses in Second Life.



You go into your class as an avatar, and you actually sit down on a desk and interact with other avatars and you see the instructor go into the class as an avatar and hear her voice streamed as he/she delivers her lecture, and you can talk to her directly via mic, as well as your classmates.

It's a better platform for learning, since you can see certain processes and activities in lessons, esp. those that require 3D imaging and interactive manipulation, and helps you understand the lesson better.
