I was longboarding with some friends today from basak, pardo aroung 2:30AM Nov. 02, 2008 and arrived in san fernando, cebu around 6:30AM the same day. Around 4:20Am today while me and my friends were skating somewhere in minglanilla we found this figure of an old man walking on the road. we thought he was a drunk trying to commit suicide but as we examined him closely and then we found out that he was hit by a speeding taxi driving along lipata, minglanilla in result it became a hit and run incident. Some bystanders who witnessed the incident told us that the taxi that hit him was "COOL TAXI Plate No. --- 597" which drove totally UNCOOL after hitting the old man and pretending to the witnesses that he was gonna take the old man to the hospital but to my surprise the driver instead pulled over in a dark alley and left the bleeding old man in pain and agony.
So we hailed a tricycle to drive us to the nearest hospital and we were brought to minglanilla district hospital. when we brought the patient inside. The Nurses and PGI's or Resident doctors on duty (11:00Pm-07:00Am Shift) are trying to deny medical service to the injured man and was instigating us to leave our identification and pay for the coming hospital bills.
BUT this MAN needs medical attention after the pain and trauma that he had felt at that time. And for me and my friends we are just good Samaritans trying to help a brother in need. The question is....
Do this policies really work? What about in the time of emergencies and life and death situations?
So if you are a public servant...serve the public properly and not because your obligated to! Do it becauseit is your PUBLIC DUTY TO SERVE THE ONE'S IN NEED!
