    SHENZHEN, China -- A Chinese company best-known for making cellphone batteries says it is on the verge of launching the country's first mass-produced electric car and may also have lined up its first large purchase order.
    In an interview, BYD Co. Chairman Wang Chuanfu said the car, known as the F3DM, will be on sale in China by the end of November, pending government approval. Mr. Wang declined to provide a sales target or price range for the new electric car but said in Beijing earlier this year that the vehicle could carry a price tag of about 150,000 yuan ...

    Xi'an plant:
    Over 1,000,000 square meters Auto manufacturing BYD Auto is a sub-company directly affiliated to BYD Company Limited. In 2003, BYD formally acquired Shaanxi Qinchuan Auto Company Limited and established BYD Auto to enter automobile manufacturing and sales embarking on the road to developing a national brand.     Over 270,000 square meters Mould designing and manufacturing Since 2007, monthly F3 sales quantity of BYD F3 has broken through 10,000 units continuously with great momentum. In July, another two-carriage medium-class car F3R was released in China, and triggered a new sales storm of two-carriage cars due to its super power, great safety and cool appearance. On June 18, 2007, when the 100,000th BYD F3 was successfully off the product line, F3 became the independent brand model that breaks through sales quantity record of 100,000 units at the fastest speed. On August 8, 2007, F6, the first medium-high-class business car of BYD, was off the product line in BYD Shenzhen Pingshan Base, symbolizing the start of the marketing of the independent brand in the medium-high-class car market. BYD Shenzhen Pingshan Base covers an area of 1,800,000m2. Until now, BYD Group has developed a huge industrial layout with an area of 7,000,000m2.     BYD, China's biggest battery maker, isn't wasting any time carving its niche in the new world of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. It all started with the F6DM plug-in hybrid sedan, followed by the smaller and less expensive F3DM plug-in hybrid compact car.
    Now BYD has introduced its E6 electric car at the Beijing International Auto Show. It takes the shape of a crossover, or MPV, and will be built on on the F6's platform (same as the F6DM, which could be sold in Europe by 2010).

    BYD E6 Electric Vehicle Specifications
    So far, all we know is that the E6 will be a 5 seater with an acceleration of 0 to 100 kph of around 10 seconds. Top speed should be top speed of 160 kph (100 mph), and the battery pack, which is located under the rear passenger seats, will be based on BYD's own lithium-ion iron phosphate technology. Range per charge is expected to be 300 km (186 miles).
    But most impressive of all:
    "BYD projected the battery had a life of 2,000 cycles, for a lifetime range of about 600,000 km (373,000 miles)"
    Wow! Even if thats just half true, it's still pretty good.

    Charging of the battery will take the night with 220V, but the E6 electric car can also take a fast charge that can bring the battery to 80% SOC in about 15 minutes.
    BYD says that it could start producing the E6 within two years. Another one to follow.
