Title: Ga Rei Zero
Genre: Horror/Supernatural/Action

Gawd I don’t even know where to start.
In Ga Rei Zero, supernatural beings are a serious threat, and the government has an elite team of soldiers trained to contain these creatures.
It starts out normally enough as far as anime premiere episodes go. A situation has gone out of hand and it’s up to our heroes to save the day. Apparently, ghosts have taken over a section of the city, and a team of paranormal specialists are sent in to eliminate them. However, a more powerful creature appears and the soldiers soon find themselves helpless. As hope begins to run out, the hero and his lovely lady driver arrive on the scene on their motorcycle. They shoot at the CLASS B monster (normal ones are CLASS C) using bullets with glowing mantras. They look really cool, but not half as cool as the bike with mantras on the wheels that in turn leave mantras on the pavement as skid marks. Neat, huh? Oh, and did I mention that they glow? Yes.
Now besides the glowing mantras, the other eye candy here would be Natsuki, the lady driver and our hero’s potential love interest. As if she weren’t hot enough, the writers decided to make her love Led Zeppelin. (GodohGodohGodohGodohGodohGod my facial hair is standing on end, Led Zeppelin FTW).
After subduing the beast, they are called in a second time to eliminate another similar beast. Business as usual, huh? That’s what I thought, too. Until I saw the ending.
To be honest, that was what drew me to this series. Almost every review I read about the pilot episode raved about the ending. And it wasn’t without good reason. Now I’m not going to spoil you, but it did leave me speechless. The last time I felt this useless was after I viewed episode 8 of TTGL. Im thinking that chronologically, this may be in fact the ending of the story.
As for the closing credits, there are none to speak of, really. It’s as if the studio knew you’d be too stupefied to care about any ED. Any song would only have distracted you anyway, nullifying the point of having such an ending. truth be told, I was actually expecting it to happen that way. Nevertheless it still blew me away.
It doesn’t explain much, but still. I’m giving this episode a 9.5/10, and the show owes it to great cinematography, great plot and of course, a stellar conclusion. The only thing that prevented me from giving it a 10 was the bad CG.
The credits talked to me as the flashed on the screen. “Yessss. Be stunned. Be very stunned.”
