    This might interest you...

I made a study of Filipino interests using google trends...

User:Nino Gonzales/The Filipino Soul According to Google - WikiPilipinas: The Hip 'n Free Philippine Encyclopedia

and found out that we are the top seekers for the following authors:
    neil gaiman
    paolo coelho
    dan brown
    anne rice
    john maxwell
    john grisham
    robert ludlum
    benedict anderson

we are also at the top for the following books:
    the little prince
    sophie's world
    one hundred years of solitude
    jonathan livingston seagull
    rich dad poor dad
    da vinci code
7 habits of highly effective people

interesting, no? do you think this reflects the reality? do we really like these books more than other countries?

not really that surprising ang purpose driven life.
ive read it a couple of times pro sadly ddnt do anything
    profound for me.

i think some people are just looking for reasons why
their lives are being directed to a better cause..its
actually a good thing.misleading, nevertheless a good thing.

    some people however,
perhaps doesn't serve any purpose at all

Default it does not mean we like them more than local writers...

what i compared was only our search frequency vs the search frequency of other countries... and for these authors, we are number one... (i don't know for what reason... one of my guesses is that we are suckers for mushy writing)

it does not mean that we are interested in them more than our local authors... for instance, if we compare dan brown with bob ong...

Google Trends: dan brown, bob ong

We will see that there was a spike in interest in dan brown on May 2006, when da vinci code premiered... however, bob ong has a more steady following beginning mid 2007...

Default What I mean by "authors Filipinos love more than other countries"

Here's a little explanation of what I mean by "authors Filipinos love more than other countries" from the article:

...Google shares to the whole world what the whole world is searching for. They have a tool called Google Trends, which shows the trend of people's searches since 2004. Google Trends also compares the frequency of searches between countries and ranks them by that criterion. For instance, if there are 10 total searches from Singapore and 7 of them are “what is the meaning of life,” that search will have a score of 70%. And if there are 100 total searches from Mexico and 50 of them are “what is the meaning of life,” Mexicans will have a score of 50% for this particular search. Singapore will thus be ranked higher than Mexico for “what is the meaning of life.”

Guess who actually has the highest rank for searching “what is the meaning of life”? Believe it or not, it is the Philippines. This means that among all peoples, Filipinos have the greatest tendency to ask Google what the meaning of life is. I could not remember the first trend I saw where Filipinos came in first. But as I tried more and more words in Google Trends, I saw certain areas being dominated by Filipinos. It was an exciting discovery. It was like taking a peek at the collective mind of the Filipino nation. Some of these areas were not really surprising. For example, we are number one in searching for “God.” Others were quite unexpected. For instance, we are the top seekers of “atheism,” “john maxwell,” and “high school musical.”
