whats the specs of your laptop? and what OS installed in it?
if you want to use a large amount of memory then try using a 64-bit OS. i am using a 64bit vista ultimate. so far so good... hehehehe...
right. any 64-bit OS would do.
OT: wakoko. mahala pud sa vista ultimate oi. nag solaris ra ko diri[64bit]. ug xp pro[32bit].
from wikipedia bro..
In computer architecture, 32-bit integers, memory addresses, or other data units are those that are at most 32 bits (4 octets) wide. Also, 32-bit CPU and ALU architectures are those that are based on registers, address buses, or data buses of that size.
32-bit is also a term given to a generation of computers in which 32-bit processors were the norm.
The range of integer values that can be stored in 32 bits is 0 through 4,294,967,295 or −2,147,483,648 through 2,147,483,647 using two's complement encoding. Hence, a processor with 32-bit memory addresses can directly access 4 GB of byte-addressable memory.
The external address and data buses are often wider than 32 bits but both of these are stored and manipulated internally in the processor as 32-bit quantities. For example, the Pentium Pro processor is a 32-bit machine, but the external address bus is 36 bits wide, and the external data bus is 64 bits wide.
Architeture
Prominent 32-bit processors include the Intel 80386, Intel 80486, and Pentium series, and the Motorola 68000 series. The Motorola 68000 is externally 16 bits long; however, it has 32-bit general purpose registers, arithmetic units, and is forwards-compatible with all 32-bit software.
Images
In digital images/pictures, 32-bit can refer to 24-bit truecolor images with an 8-bit alpha channel.
32-bit file format
A 32-bit file format is a binary file format for which each elementary information is defined on 32 bits (or 4 Bytes). An example of such a format is the Enhanced Metafile Format.

if your processor has the 64-bit instruction set, then simply installing a 64-bit operating system would remedy the RAM limitation. check the processor manual, additionally for Intel, look for EM64T, which means that the processor has support for 64-bit. for amd procs, any model with X64 if i'm not mistaken.
before installing the 64-bit OS, make sure to secure 64-bit drivers for your other devices.
ako vista premium 32bit...yes mo display man na 4gig ako ram sa my computer properties kai SP1 naman, pero 3gig lang jud tinuuray ang magamit sa ako system..
According to Microsoft KB (Article ID : 929605)
" It is MS 32 bit OS limitation, the maximum you can see is 3GB in the OS currently. The reduction in available system memory depends on the devices that are installed in the computer. However, to avoid potential driver compatibility issues, the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista limit the total available memory to 3.12 GB. "
More details, please refer to Microsoft’s support site: The system memory that is reported in the System Information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than you expect if 4 GB of RAM is installed
