It really shows that some posters in the "locked thread" (of the same topic) don't read the provided link.
The accident was in Malaysia NOT in CDO.
I hope this link works;

Tourist killed while rafting
KOTA KINABALU: A Dutch tourist drowned while on a whitewater rafting trip down the Padas River about 170km from here.
Bianca De Visser De Vries, 42, was thrown off the raft with six others including her husband at 2pm on Tuesday. Her body was found at about 3.45pm, some 2km further down the river.
Tenom police chief Deputy Supt Amru Kadir said that the case had been classified as death by misadventure.
According to tour guide Ailir Ruhasil, who was also on the raft, the Dutch couple and four others left the Pangi area for the 5km ride down river to Rayoh.
He said the raft hit the rapids, throwing all the occupants into the river.
De Vries could not be found while the others, including her husband, managed to swim to the riverbank.

And this is what the sister said;

I have been reading the reactions on the accident on Padas River, after 'googling' for mor information about it. Especially the reply from Geoman hit me. He is right about the responsibility of the touroperators and I know many people, who are physically not equipped to it, go rafting or do other extreme sports.
But.............in this case.......the toeriste was my sister Bianca. She was 42 years old, in perfect physical condition, very sportive, no overweight and an experianced rafter. So is her husband. We are all still in shock how this could have happened. She did more heavy rivers, was an excellent swimmer. They had their helmets and livejackets on and where given sufficient instructions.
The cause of death was in fact: her HELMET. She got stuck under water (don't know by what) and her helmet must have been pushed backwards of her head. She did not drown, but was strangled by the fastening belt (sorry, my English could be better) of her own helmet. The bones in her throat were broken and the belt had cut deep wounds in her flesh.
So, without disagreeing about the genereal precautions for these sports and the fact that many people should not even think about doing this....in this case it was just a fatal accident. Leaving the whole family and the many friends in deep mourning. So, I hope to end the guesses in this particular case and ask for a little understanding from the members of this forum.

This accident could happen in CDO or anywhere.
But you'll have a peace of mind when you do rafting in CDO because;
- many CDO guides have been doing it since 1995
- many CDO guides were trained by IRF instructors
- many CDO guides are IRF certified.
- many CDO guides are RedCross First-aid certified.
- CDO guides represent the Philippines in the recent Annual IRF championships
- many CDO guides are trained to "read" the water flow.
- clueless, reckless, gung-ho, cowboy attitudes are not encourage.
- IRF instructors will smack you in the forehead if you are a stupid/wannabe rafting guide.
- duty of care is paramount in CDO rafting
- Cagayan River is just beautiful (real Class 3/4) and amazing
So come to CDO and enjoy the best rafting in the Philippines.
Invest in CDO, CIC, NorMin. Work & Play is here
cheers,
