Think about this, Olympics superstar Michael Phelps is taking in about 8000 to 12000 calories a day!! Ever taught of bulking up with a daily intake like that? Take a look at Phelps..
That doesn't look like a 12000-calorie-daily-intake man. Compare 12,000 to the USDA 2200 calories for a typical man. A pound a fat is said to take about 3,500 calories to produce so in a normal person this diet would put on about 90 pounds a month, a little under 1,100 pounds in a year.
Here's a brief run of his daily diet:
He told NBC he begins the day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.
Phelps' washes it down with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.
At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches with lashings of mayo on white bread - and chasing the sammies with 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.
Then dinner is served, Phelps five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen is rewarded with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza.
Followed by 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks, again.

So how does Phelps maintain his lean size despite of the fact that he's not depriving himself of all the good food.. big time?
Michael Phelps' rigorous training would require about a whooping 1000 calories per hour. Phelps is training for about 6-7 hours a day and that would amount to about 6000-7000 calories a day! And also don't undermine swimming, it burns more calories than any other exercise.
What's the lesson?
There will always be a price to pay in order to be in shape and to keep one's body in shape.
[1] Limit the calories by following a diet and couple it up with minimal exercise. Follow the RDA. This is recommended for those who aren't willing to exercise and for those who doesn't have the time.
[2] Do the Michael Phelps way. Turn your body into an ultimate fat and calorie furnace and enjoy all the luxury that food brings.
A tip though, even for professional and serious athletes and fitness gurus, fried and greasy foods are not recommended.
