Shining Force
Shining Soul
Fire Emblem
Secret of Mana
Mega Man Battle Network (may sound kiddy, but is actually a very fun game)
Metroid (any one of the series)

Breath of Fire 1 and 2...though the translation is a bit bad...
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Legend of Zelda (any of the games are good)
