Intel is doomed in the 4+ way market. I dont deny that, like the Yonah, them Conroes look tasty. But they're still using the standard FSB architecture, which is totally unsuitable for SMP needs. They got around it recently by using two FSBs on 2-way systems, but that doesnt help 4-way servers any, and these quad-core Clovertons will be starved even more - a single 1066 bus for four cores? ...No.
AMD look to be banging out some awesome designs for AM2. We already know for sure that it'l bring DDR2 and raise HT, doubling available bandwith, while scaling up the GHz with 65nm. Some things even point toward CPU-integrated PCI-E lanes. AMD really dont need to design a new chip; they did the hard work years ago, and now they're truly ramping it up. Just imagine the bandwith that eight Socket F chips will have...
i would suggest that AMD bump the EV6 bus from 200mhz to 400mhz..... also increase their L2 cache....
the benchmarks show a substancial increase in performance by intel.... although its still 6 months away.....
AM2 with DDR2 must be coupled with a bus speed increase.... I think AMD will do the bus speed increase to 400mhz..... and this would sustain their lead over Intel.....
I cant wait to see AM2 running with DDR2 DDR1000.. i think thats the reason why they delayed the release for it..
amd still uses 90nm process and DDR1... well wait how a 65nm and a DDR2 memory controller would answer this.. furthermore, we still don't know how well theses CPU's perform on 64-bit world
i will really miss the tight timings DDR1 offers compared to DDR2.
it made the overclocked fx-60 a thing of the past...
just hope this is all true, when conroe is released...
