Default Mid-life Crisis: who's the real victim?

I've been asking around about the issue, and I realize that it's the least tackled topic, at least among my clique. Could it be that people who are in such crisis don't know they are in such circumstance? Or they would rather think of happy thoughts than dwelling their waking hours thinking about experiencing it, since there will come a time that they will go through it anyway. Therefore, they will just wait for it to happen?

Men, i know, for most of the time are seemingly the soft target of this psychological illness, not because they're most susceptible to it, but because they're most likely to show the symptoms.

What are the possible safeguards? Or can it be prevented to begin with? What one should do once he/she is in it?

Now that you've brought that up. What is the average age a person can possibly be in a mid-life crisis? Is that based on the present average life expectancy rate? Did I just answer my question?
