i would like to know if it is feasible that a cooperative will operate as an ISP in a subdivision that will offer DSL.
practically it would be like a WAN in a subdivision.
any experts out there? thanks!

its possible.........
good for 254 users
but all must be 100 meters from the router....
why 100 meters? because that is the theoretical limit of a Cat5e cable(others would call it a cross cable but i prefer calling it cat5 because that is the internationally recognize name for such cable).
but 100 meters can be extended further.........
but the number of users would go down.....
you can go wireless but not a guaranteed solution.

i also thought of this because my friend have this set-up in their family compound. he placed a antenna on the highest point of their compund and had some sort of a booster to extend the signal.
but i want a professional advice and set-up since this will be commercial.
i'm open to cable or wireless.

how big is the area
if its a subdivision i presume there will be roads and poles....
the set-up would be like a simple network
DSL------->ROUTER-------->switch 1, switch 2, switch 3.......
the switches would be strategically located close to the end users....
For a feasibility study...
1.) How many potential customers are we talking about?
2.) What is the method by which the subdivision users will connect to you? -- Cable, Cat5, Fiber, wireless?
3.) What type of connection are you going to get? -- DSL burst, DSL guaranteed, Leased-line... etc.
4.) Where would the central node of your ISP be housed and what's it's relative distance to other houses within the subdivision?
5.) Who's going to manage it? And how many personnel are you looking at supporting your facility.
6.) What's your break-even point? Assuming you can recover cost for your equipment investment in about 2 years time
Then ask yourself the question, is it worth it?![]()
for extending cat5's try using repeaters..![]()
unsa brand sa repeater to extend cat5's?
