From P 0.15/kb, now you can surf the net straight on your GLOBE mobile phone or on your laptop/desktop using your GLOBE mobile phone as modem for only Php5.00 for 15 minutes or Php20 an hour, almost same rate with internet cafes.

For me, this is better than sa SMART wireless broadband nga prepaid because of its speed:

GLOBE - up to 1.8 mbps
SMART - up to 384 kbps

Both signals still depends on your location though.

Sa SMARTBro, you need to buy the USB Modem for Php4,500... thats crap!

So what are you waiting for? switch to globe na!!!

If I create a dialer, to use the cell as a modem, I would have to enter username and password... Did not find any information on the globe website about that...

if SMART...you can use your 3G phone to browse the net @10pesos per 30minutes. While Globe had it at .15/kb, SMART was already offering it @10/30min.

if SMARTbro...you have to buy the kit/usb modem @4,500pesos. That is not crap. Assuming you dont have a phone or you want to have a separate connection. Imagina kuno bro if you are using your phone as a modem, unya naay manawag nimo...magbitay ang imo cable to your laptop, dili na ka mobile ana.

So, why switch?...try lang siguro.

word of caution: to get the 1.8mbps (usual burst speed ave 1.2mbps lang) you need to have an HSDPA capable modem. If you're using a regular 3G cellphone you're still stuck to 384 kbps (i get a consistent speed of 370kbps with globe's 3G network) and you need to be on a 3G network covered area. Not all 3G areas offer HSDPA.

another caveat:
globe prepaid users cant use YM and can't browse secure websites -- this has been my problem. I was told by tech sup that postpaid are not restricted. i never had any problem with the Smart 3G except that the speed is as slow as molasses. mind that your speed will greatly be affected with location.

another pa gyud: 5/15 mins may seem ok but you have to remember that once you get disconnected, say bye bye to your 5php. another connection means another 5bucks for globe. smart billing is different. you get charged 10php outright for a 30min block. if you get disconnected and reconnect, there is no additional charge regardless of the number of reconnections as long as you are still within the first 30min block.

the 5/15min rate is not automatic you need to send TIME to 1111 in order to be billed by the time. else you still get charged per KB. to revert just txt KB to 1111

@softouchph: you do not use any dial up numbers. you use access codes instead.
just use *99# and it would connect to Globe's GPRS/3G without any username and password

if you do not use a PC suite like nokia's you can manually add a command on the modem setting
here's what i use:
smart modem setting
AT+CGDCONT=,,"internet"<cr>

globe modem setting
AT+CGDCONT=,,"internet.globe.com.ph"<cr> (for postpaid)
AT+CGDCONT=,,"http.globe.com.ph"<cr> (for prepaid)

if you're a globe prepaid user.. sorry nalang. dili ka ka access gmail ug yahoo mail because they require secure logins (https://) mo time-out ra ang page.
