ALBUM REVIEW
'Nasud Ko' 12 little things for our Country.
A unique CD Produced by the Dilaab Foundation featuring 11 of the top Bisrock bands of Cebu, who have composed 12 new highly original songs specifically for this album.
Aggressive Audio – Simbahan : Goodtime rolling rock, reminiscent of down to earth Southern Rock/Boogie, with a great little guitar solo by Archie.
The Agadiers – Bunga: One of the most powerful songs on the album. If this is a true example of their writing ability, then with a lot of hard work this band could go a long way!
Phylum - Be Good: Very original sound. One of the best vocalists in Cebu, great vocal treatment and guitar work on this track.
Agipo – Resibo: Great live sound, energetic, a real mover with the classic Agipo drive and humor.
Glass of Dirt – Hugno: Rock at the harder end of the scale, right between the eyes, but with some interesting mood changes.
Fervent - Sunda'ng balaud ta: One of the more commercial songs on the album. A band with a very individual sound, lots of light and shade, nice song.
Kabobo – Pagmatngun: Good example of how to use dynamics in a song. Really interesting arrangement, very original.
Assembly Language - Smuggled goods: the most commercial song on the album. This song should be getting major airplay. Great hook along with the well known Assembly vocal sound.
Indephums – Barusa: Indephums at their best. No compromise. Couldn’t be anyone else. 100% energy and drive.
What's the Frequency? – SONA: Very clever song. How to marry reggae and rock, plus the unmistakable vocal tones of Ram.
Mantequilla – PBB: Known as one of the heaviest Bisrock bands, they have created something here that is a great example of how to build a song from beginning to end. Impressive and the ‘Big Man’ shows all his moods.
Bisrock Allstars - Nasud Ko: The anthem song 'Nasud Ko' is performed by the vocalists of all 11 bands and the Agadiers. It was written by Alaine Agadier (music) and Fr Carmelo Diola (lyrics). This is an extraordinary piece of music the like of which has never been heard before in the Philippines. It will undoubtedly become an anthem to many over the coming years and will eventually become a part of Filipino culture. There are plans to also record this anthem in Tagalog and English.
This is probably one of the most original concept albums ever produced in the Philippines and certainly one of the best albums to ever come out of the Visayas. If you haven’t got it in your collection you’re really missing out. For those who don’t understand Bisrock it will show you what a variety of genres exist within it. You will be surprised!
The saddest thing about this album up until now is the lack of interest shown by the local mainstream media – print, radio and TV. Is it not time for them to start supporting their artists especially when something as good as this comes out? Why is this album also not available in the main record stores? Questions you the public should be asking them, if you want your artists to grow and receive their just recognition.
To all the bands we would say, you have now set a precedent of quality, so don’t let your standards drop below what you have achieved on this album. You have proved something here, keep it up!
Rating – Excellent
