The laser that reads the CD is probably busted. Better buy a new one. I had the same situation as yours, but mine was the opposite, the DVD laser was busted so I could not read DVDs but it can still read CDs.

hehhehe!! ako pd bro..labi na nang LG nga brand..sus! i don't recommend it..aw hinoon it did me years of service hinoon pero mamakak nlang nka burn na daw sya pero wla diay sulod ang cd and dli pa jd magamit na after..and usa ka combo drive sa LG will turn into just a mere cd rom..after a few months

naa man daghan baligya na lens cleaner. if dili gihapon, then basin naguba na ang lens.

naa pud ko LG sauna, mamili ug CD. dali ra sad kaayo maguba.
