Default RAID 0 and SATA Questions? Please Help me mga master..

I've been thinking of creating a RAID 0 array out of my 2pcs 500GB Seagate. The problem is nag duha2x ko kay non-recoverable raba ang tanang files sa imo RAID once isa sa HDD kay ma guba... Mao na nag libug ko kung i ordinary lng ba ni nako or i RAID 0... mao ni ako pangutana...

    1. Unsay Advantage ug Disadvantage sa RAID 0 array kaysa sa walay RAID nga 2pcs HDD?

    2. Kung mag RAID 0 ko, dali raba ma guba ang ako HDD bsan wala jud gi tarug ako HDD?

    3. Pila d.i difference sa speed sa RAID 0 kaysa sa dili i RAID?

    4. Ako 500GB Seagate HDD kay naay jumper na ma set ug 1.5GB/s Limit or 3GB/s. How do i enable 3GB/s aside from removing the jumpers? Will the 3GB/s automatically be enabled or do i need to do some other things?

    5. Will RAID makes gaming faster?

Sorry for these questions... I'm, just a noob mn gud. hehe.

    1. Advantage of Raid0:

It will definitely load the games faster, specially big chunks of files.(Games mostly has big chunk of files that has to be unpacked everytime you play)

It has a Read/write speed Faster than any single drive, even single WD Raptor could not surpass raid0 drive when it comes to read/write.
It will definitely fast when it comes to big files handling.
    Copying files is Fast.

    Disadvantage:
It doesn't shorten the seek time in the disk. (Seek time remain constant and thats the advantage of Raptor Drive due to short seek time and no drive could beat that)
It doesn't have a performance advantage when it comes to smaller chunks of files.
If one of the drive fails, your files can not be recovered.

    2. A good drive is always a good drive. Even if you only have a single drive, if it fail, it will really fail. If a single drive fail, it is possible that you still can recover your file. But still, backup is a must, coz you may recover, you may not.

    3. I'm not sure with the speed difference, but maybe some of our fellow guys here knows it. I am not an expert on this, its just I'm used to it and feel the difference compared to when I use a single drive.

    4. It will be detected automatically your 3Gbps when you remove the jumper, don't worry about it.

5.Definitely with loading time, but not with Frame per second (FPS). It should definitely help, specially with big Maps/Area.

    Hope it helps. Gud luck...

hehe. learned somthing new again. ^_^. thanks icecube. it really helps. hehe.

guess i'll create a RAID 0 array when i get my other 500GB HDD today. I'm still creating a windows xp installer that has a built in SATA RAID driver. ^_^

    gudluck bro.

no worries with ur files.just always back them up..

nowadays...it possible to recover files from a failed raid 0 drive.

    hehehhe..1TB for drive c:

no plans for a drive d

    that wud be ur insurance..

ideally...it wud be great to have a 2 x 250GB SATAII 16MB cache in RAID 0 ( this configuration smokes the single drive raptor 150GB SATAI )

    www.tomshardware.com

    ..HAVE a genuine XP SP2 installer...sata raid 0 installation in a breeze...

Check your Mobo manual, definitely configuration are the same. The difference is, what key to press during start-up to enter the Raid menu. And make sure to enable raid in your bios option, its also in your mobo manual.

It would be best to have two identical drive, but I read something that it will work with two unidentical drive but I'm not sure about the performance. Especially if you have sata I & II in Raid0, since these two has different outputs. SataI has a max of 1.5Gbps and SataII has a max of 3Gbps.

To make sure with the performance gain, it should be identical. Murag kimpang imong Raid0 bro, kong ang usa kusog and usa hinay. Mag hulat ang kusog sa hinay pirmi.
