US financier Warren Buffett has overtaken Bill Gates as the world's richest man, according to Forbes annual billionaire's list, which this year saw Russia, China and India making increasing inroads.

Buffett, the 77-year-old chief of the Berkshire Hathaway holding company, saw his wealth jump from 52 billion dollars last year to 62 billion, pushing Microsoft co-founder Gates into third position after 13 years at the top.

saw this guy a few times in town and saw his humble house. you'd never thought he is who he is. very frugal. i'm not even surprised that he'd overtaken gates since berkshire hathaway is one of the most sought after stocks, it's very expensive to get a share. every year in may they have a BH stockholders meeting here in omaha and stockholders from from all over the world would come just to listen to him talk.

Last week's issue of Forbes.com said that part Buffet's personal fortune also goes to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Accordingly, "He came at a time when he (Buffet) gets richer and richer and he's also giving them away."
