Default Web graphics? Bitmap or Vector?

Hello,

I'm learning how to use Photoshop 7 in parallel with relearning DHTML (xHTML, CSS, Javascript, XML technologies) because I'm interested in freelancing as a web designer / client-side developer.

My first photo edit (left before, right after):

I'm just curious what Cebu freelance web designers use mostly to create their web graphics. Paint programs like Photoshop or vector programs like Illustrator?

I bought a book titled Photoshop 7 Virtual Classroom and the author himself said, "To be sure, you can easily draw shapes in Photoshop, but if you're planning to
create eye-grabbing posters and web graphics, you're better off with the vastly more versatile capabilities of a real illustration program. On the other hand, if
your need for drawing capabilities is only occasional, Photoshop certainly gives you enough to ensure that you won't need to look elsewhere unless you need
high-end capabilities."

Or basin this is just a no-brainer because I'll be getting an answer like "Use the right tool for the right job" but please indulge me so I can also learn the tools
you use so we can share tips (I know daghan sa Google but nindot man ka-istorya fellow Cebuanos and get excited about similar interests) kung intermediate user
na pud ko.

Thanks a lot.

bro ang adobe illustrator is for vector graphics suitable for print media like brochure, flyers, streamers, billboards, poster, books. printing company (offset printing) use illustrator or adobe indesign kay sharp gyud ang result cos its vector. illustrator is very good in layouting gyud..

for web, photoshop na gyud na kay using raster graphics. web graphics uses jpeg,png or gif. much beter gamit ka photoshop cs2 or cs3 gyud..

web graphics ---> photoshop

print media ------> illustrator

@bytelick: Salamat bro! Sige concentrate sa ko Photoshop until mahimo ko expert (daghan pako bug-as kan-un). Bantog ra ako sister (graphics artist for Seiko
watches) uses Illustrator. Pero mugamit pud kuno siya Photoshop to edit pictures of models (faces and hands) para pampawa blemishes and other skin imperfections then iya import images to Illustrator to make the final advertising.

kong sa web graphics, sky is the limit gyud ang effects..

ako gikan ko printing company, na anad nako ug ginagmay nga effects pag balik nako sa web adjust napod, although related sila kay into graphics or designing but different approach or style/procedure gyud..

sa mga galibog pwede phtoshop or illustrator for printing.... basta make sure lang kugn photoshop ka 300 DPI nimu e set

when it comes to vectors sa illustrator jud kay sayon ra lubag lubag sa nodes hehhehe...

as for the pic nga imu gi practise nindot na kay maka pa inspire dili ka kapoyun ug enhance gana jud nyahahahahahahahahahaha!

anyway my best tip is, learn how to crop/remove backgrounds from images sa photoshop, it'll come in handy when mag sagol sagol naka ug mga images,..... a NEWBIE'S must... and also dapat expert ka when it comes to using the polygonal lasso tool! di ka magmahay...
