Default Have you read "Memoirs of a Geisha"?

With all the hype going on about the movie, I decided to read the book. It's an interesting look of the intricate packaging albeit, sad life of a geisha. They're basically well trained high class prostitutes. A real page turner, if you're in to soap opera type of literature.

Now that I've read the book, I'm no longer inclined to see the movie. I know, I won't appreciate it as much now that I've turned movie critic. Hmmm... If I decide to see it, I'll let you guys know.

geisha are not prostitutes by the way, its a misnomer.
Basically they are hired to enterntain ppl, but not sexually. They danced, sing, makes joke.

not prostitutes per se, but like "masahistas" they can ply another trade in the guise of "massage therapist" banner. Similar to the infamous Filipino entertainers in Japan referred to as Japayuki's. Not that all entertainers do these things... however a few rotten apples in a basket tend to ruin the entire lot.

Yep, i read the book and i learned about the culture in japan. More importanty, how geisha's are being trained and what it means to be a geisha way back then.

@itstheshoes, yeah that is really the case. the behaviour of a few really affects the majority.

well, the book was not really written by a geisha so we cannot validate its integrity. and we don't the history of a geisha or how their life is supposed to be lived. But its a good and interesting read just the same, fiction or not

Arthur Golden wrote for Nitta Sayuri, since the latter is not much good in English..I think it's found in the Prologue of the book, how they held his interviews with Ms. Sayuri...

Nice book...I read it before hearing of making it to a movie...

theÂ* book isÂ* fiction.Â* sayuri"sÂ* nameÂ* is made up.Â* arthurÂ* golden'sÂ* acknowlegment in the book says itÂ* all, that ifÂ* you botherÂ* to read it.

it'sÂ* just howÂ* heÂ* writesÂ* theÂ* book in theÂ* beginning, it'sÂ* likeÂ* an interview of sayuri.

it'sÂ* been aÂ* whileÂ* sinceÂ* i readÂ* the book.Â* i don'tÂ* think itÂ* was that good, maybeÂ* because i wantÂ* sayuri to endÂ* up withÂ* nobu.Â* Â*
