actually, the African slaves in south america were not allowed by their owners to practice MARTIAL ARTS...so they "disguised" it as a dance with music as accompaniment...diri ra ko kutob...
Jui-jitsu also is not native to BRAZIL...the word Jui-jitsu is the Brazilian way of saying the Martial Art Jujutsu in Japan...or in others words it ORIGINATED in Japan and brought to Brazil and they Developed it and was called Jui-jitsu(gsyoo-cgitsoo) not sure sa pronounciation...please call my attention if u think I am wrong with my presentation...

I would like to think that most of these disciplines are of hybrid forms. Capoeira is the only distinct one I know.
