mayweather retires with his self proclaimed greatness. great boxers like ali, sugar ray leonard, marvin hagler, ect... took big risks to achieve greatness. he'll never get the respect he could have deserved

Pretty Girl Floyd is bad for boxing. he is just a greedy boxer who has a lot of skills..... he will never have the respect that sugar ray or ali have..... he is a chicken......

pbf's legacy will always be tainted (with a matching asterisk ***) if ever he walks out of boxing after another fight. he needs to fight all the best the the division (mosley, margarito, gb, etc.). until then, he can claim is place in boxing history as one of the best.

    Floyd defeated Baldomir via UD

Ringside punch statistics showed Mayweather landing 199 of 458 punches, while Baldomir landed just 79 of 670. Mayweather earned $8 million for the fight, while Baldomir was paid $1.6 million. Both were career highs in earnings for each fighter.

During the fight, Baldomir chased Mayweather sluggishly, unable to land any meaningful shots but trying to remain the busier fighter, while Mayweather picked away with sharp jabs and hooks, even managing to cut Baldomir over his left eye in the first round. This pattern continued throughout the fight, thanks in no small part to Baldomir's weighing in at 160 pounds on fight night (normal weight for a middleweight), leading some to believe that Baldomir's sole intention was to knock Mayweather out. The defensive-minded Mayweather, however, apparently not looking to knock out or even exchange blows with his opponent, put on what many witnesses called a "boxing clinic" to take Baldomir's WBC and Ring welterweight titles in a lopsided 12 round decision. Two judges had Mayweather winning all 12 rounds, with the other giving all but two rounds to Mayweather.

At the post-fight press conference, a teary-eyed Mayweather stated he would like to retire after one final fight. Early speculation is that Mayweather will seek out Oscar de la Hoya again. This announcement has caused shock and even some anger in the boxing community, as many feel that Mayweather should still test himself against the top welterweight champions and contenders while still in his prime. However, many also believe that Mayweather, although clearly emotional after the fight, may just be weary after 10 years of fighting, and is merely selling his fight with De la Hoya as a double retirement fight to both raise the stakes and give him an opportunity to take a break.

there is a new wbo heavyweight champion: Shannon Briggs

    ---
The Iron Curtain over the heavyweight division was lifted Saturday night as Shannon Briggs wrested the WBO title with a rousing 12th round stoppage of Sergei Liakhovich. Briggs stoppage made his the sole owner of one of the four major heavyweight belts that does not hail from one the republics of the former Soviet Union.

Briggs, a longtime underachiever once marked as top prospect, rallied strong in the final stanza. Knocking the champ down in the final round, he finished the fight with a barrage that sent Liakhovich through the ropes to win the bout.

However, the bout was largely booed for most the fight because both men refused to engage for much of the contest, and the rarely risked themselves to trade shots or risk getting hit.

At the time of the stoppage, Liakhovich led 106-103, 106-103, and 105-104 on the judges' score cards. The fight itself, however, was largely unexciting until the final round.

In the Showtime co-feature, Juan Diaz retained his WBA lightweight title for the fifth time with a clearcut 12 round unanimous decision win over Fernando Angulo. Scores were 118-109 (twice) and 116-111 for 'The Baby Bull', who improves to 31-0 with 15 KOs. Angulo falls to 18-4 with 12 KOs.
