Those who blame movie producers for selling DVDs and Blu-ray don't realize that films of Pinoy movie producers earn MUCH LESS than foreign ones.
Here in the Philippines, an American film earns about 50% for each ticker sold. A Pinoy movie released any time of the year in the country, with the exception of the 2-week period of MMFF, earns only 35% per ticket sold. This is due to the complicated taxation system as well LGU's implementation of the amusement tax.
When it comes to Pinoy films on DVD, it takes longer for their prices to fall down because the home video market serves as the producers' last chance to recover what they invested. In the case of Hollywood films on DVD, they do serve as additional income (or as recovery tools in cases when their very expensive film flopped in the theaters. Perfect example - Green Lantern).
