It really depends on what kind of application you are planning to create. If you are going to build robust applications that communicate well with hardware devices then C++ is the way to go.
If you are gearing towards molding a client-server applications i.e. accounting, inventory software, then you should go with .NET ( vb.net, C# ) or Powerbuilder. You'll have nightmares doing client-server applications with C++

There’s more… like integration of various MS and 3rd party products… plus they offer a Team Foundation Server which really incomparable to any IDE, I suggest you check about the Features in the Enterprise Editions, and the especially Visual Studio Team System plus the numerous support they have from Intel, Oracle etc.

If they only want to attract in a sense of faster development, People who come is more likely not yet able to see the entire solution that MS can provide, if budgeting does not count, getting an alternative is fine… but I don’t like to switch to PowerBuilder IDE back and forth or Visual Studio, there’s lot more waste of time doing that in the first place.
Sure thing I will check that out. But I would also encourage you to check out Powerbuilder too.
And a bit of Powerbuilder history this is a nice read: History of Powerbuilder

The thread about programming language. Power builder is not a language. The debate is just circulating.
1st, encourage a person to study their base language, programming language mastery.
2nd, enhance the skill and make better software.

Powerbuilder can't do fine details in my point of view.

Can power builder slice text files into smaller text files?
    .... listen ports?
    .... hellish loops?
.... can process data and consumes CPU usage? <--- we usually do that intentionally.
.... update data if new software VERSIONS arrive? ? ? ?
... can it send data/messages to other devices?

What if your boss asked you to extract certain "data formats" from a series of text files, can power builder do that? hahahahahahaha

I'm sure that powerbuilder can't do customized algorithm for special execution.

Pataka man lang mo ug putak.

Powerbuilder is a programming language. I wonder if you know powerscript.
Powerbuilder can create socket server -- thus it listen to ports. I remember I work with powerbuilder before and my program call his PB server.

Powerbuilder can communicate with devices. The keyword is 'powerbuilder comms'

Powerbuilder can communicate with native components -- thus it can can call native API (devices, OS, layer, activex, etc)
Powerbuilder can do file manipulation. See this: Read big file (>32765 bytes) - Real's PowerBuilder How-to

Powerbuilder can even do chess. I remember there's a chess demo created in powerbuilder.

And of course it has limitations, use the right tools for an specific tasks. If something cannot be done then it's because it's not making any sense for powerbuilder.

    WIKIPEDIA SOURCE:
PowerBuilder, sometimes abbreviated as PB, is an IDE originally created by Powersoft and later purchased by Sybase

IT IS NOT A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE!! It is an IDE
Power builder is not a language My goodness!!!!!!

I know what's IDE all about. They are interchangeble. If you say powerbuilder as a language then that's powerscript.

Kakita ba ka ug laing IDE nga powerscript ang gigamit? Therefore Powerbuilder as a language refers to powerscript.

Obviously you failed to mention powerscript. You pointed out the wrong points that powerbuilder cant create this and that. Just admit it.
Barugi na imong giistorya nga ang powerbuilder walay capability sa imong gipangmention.

Shallow ra kaayo ka ug nahibaw-an dayon putak dayon. Ayg pataka gud.

It doesn't change the subject. The thread is talking about programming language, not about Power Scripting or whatsoever.
Yes we know the meaning RAD, it means RAPID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT, rapid is rapid... it means fast.

Therefore RAD doesn't care about the small details in development.
