how can we not include the church on it when they were using religious figures?
Ok let's try to put this into a more realistic, palpable context via an example.

Let's say for over 20 years now, I own an ashtray that's in the shape of the Virgin Mother's Vagina. Now, yes, it might be a wrong example, because this ashtray is inside a private home, and NOT in a museum...

...But, wait a minute...even though it's in a private house, the fact that I MENTIONED THAT I HAVE such an ashtray here, already made some of you feel outraged right (bukal na dayon ang dugo)? It's right there, sitting on my desk, and you didn't know about it, until JUST NOW.

    See? This is my point.

Does this mean that for 20 years I was living in peace and quiet, because I NEVER TALKED about my ashtray, and NOW that I've talked about it, does this mean YOU or the LIKES OF YOU, and the CHURCH now have a right to go into my home, knock on my door, and demand the object from me, because you want it destroyed?

This...is basically what happened to Poleteismo--if it didn't cause such a stir (it has been sitting in Vargas Hall at UP Diliman for over 9 years now), nobody would pay attention to it. Just like my ashtray.

I won't stop Spring from closing this thread, after all, he is indeed the moderator assigned to this section. But just a word of note if he ever does--it will be one rather sad point down in the right to freedom of expression and a victory point for censorship.

    Yes! Exactly. Sakpan nuon mo.

This is not the VATICAN! We are NOT under the Vatican Constitution. We are under the PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION! The Philippine Republic abides by the principles of DEMOCRACY and NOT a SECULARIST STATE. Democracy STRESSES and PREREQUISITES the separation of church and state! The CHURCH (and its followers) have NO POWER over the government.

Ergo, the "public" that you infer to has NO RIGHT to destroy/alter the stuff I own or the tools I use for expressing what I want to express, under the banner of Democracy.

Exactly what i've been thinking. The nasty things i could say to deluded catholics i pretty much have the freedom of saying so but I keep it to myself here. Why? It's not because I'm scared or something. Hell, I can slap the next catholic i meet into the middle of next year. But seriously, not all the time they deserve that. You insult a person because of their beliefs maskin wala nanghilabot nimo (which is obviously what this artist is doing).

As a matter of principle, if something I think instills disharmony among others I'd rather keep it until it is necessary IF it is necessary.

Or to put it simply, never use your own freedom to deprive another of his. You may call it censorship but do note that censorship has VERY limited uses and sometimes it happens where it counts.

I don't think many people see these rooms/domiciles, more particularly those who have access to the internet. Looking at the news and watching those who have 'violently' reacted to this artwork and are in fact filing cases against CCP, the artist and whoever else, I am convinced these people have never seen the 'inspiration' for this work. They choose to be smugly moralistic. If only they'd spend their efforts and monies in helping the poor, the artist would then loose his inspiration and stop making these 'works of art'...

sakto gyud ka ani sir, the artist has gone way too far.. in the guise of the freedom of expression.. and for me, its kinda like a cheap art form.. im not a good art critic but that's how it appears to me..
