Thread: AWOL question

    Meaning Absent without permission.
    Origin

Leave simply means permission, although that usage is now largely defunct. The earliest reference I can find to that usage in the expression 'absent without leave' comes from Mr. Rushworth's Historical Collections, Volume VI, 1646 to 1648, published 1708:
The same day the Peers call'd over their House, and order'd, That the Lords, absent without Leave, or just Excuse, be fin'd £100 a Man.
AWOL is a term originating in the US military, as an acronym for 'Absent Without Official Leave'. This is much later than 'absent without leave'. H. L. Mencken, in The American Language, 1945, records it as originating during the [American] Civil War, but without hard evidence. He states:
"[In the Confederate Army] absences of short duration were often unpunished and in other cases offenders received such trivial sentences as reprimand by a company officer, digging a stump, carrying a rail for an hour or two, wearing a placard inscribed with the letters AWOL."
As far as documentary evidence goes, the earliest I can find date from the First World War - an apt reason for absenting oneself without permission, if there ever was one. The term seems to have first been applied to American servicemen, in newspaper reports of the time. For example, this piece from The New York Times, July, 1919:
The prize "A.W. O.L." performer of the American Expeditionary Force has been discovered. He is Private Jack Engleton of Ambulance Company 1, Second Divison. Engleton has been absent without leave almost two years, having been away from his division during the entire period of its fighting activities in Europe.

You are there for an interview. They choose their questions and you only answer the questions and nothing else.
so if they ask you about your experiences you will answer "please dont ask that question?" haha
you cant always use "taking care of the family business" they will ask "so someone's taking care of it now?" then they will check your SSS contributions..
The checking of SSS contributions will certainly give you away, but they won't find that out in the interview anyway. He is talking about probability, not all companies are checking everything you know.

If you don't put anything about your former employer why would they ask you about it anyway. Why ask about something that supposedly did not exist. If they are going to check your experience, work with your valid ones, compensate for the lack of it (experience) by "empty" promises. I appreciate you being so thorough but suffice to say you aren't being helpful as well. You are just adding to the negativity.

Back to topic, Irresponsible behavior is really one of the things that will make you a bad candidate. Now that you have learned your lesson, start with what you have and work with it.

ugh i was on idle my post wasn't saved

anyway, the negativity and consequences will make employees afraid of being AWOL. if you AWOL the consequences are heavier than you think it would be. Big companies are meticulous that's why normally they'd say I will call you soon.. they do thorough background check, including your SSS contribution before they give your JO. Small companies, on the other hand, who are obviously paying just enough or small pay, doesn't care if you AWOLd before coz they dont demand much skills or intelligence from you. if you dream of applying to big companies then prepare and expect the consequences will come if not now then later.lol
if you did it before there's no guarantee you will not do it again. there are a lot of reasons why we AWOL but we should realize the dream job you've always wanted is just there somewhere but because niAWOL ka dili naka mahire kay nana kay bad record. if tarungon lang nimo og explain why ka niAWOL during interview moconsider rana ang HR if valid imong reason.butangan lang gamay bakak.hehe

ayaw nalang jud awol kay mohibaw.an jud na sa HRs.

in the first place we applied because we want to work.
we undergo series of interviews den we WORK when we get the job offer den we are being paid den mamiya lang tag kalit. bati kaayu kaayu na xa oie. sa imung part hasta sad sa company nga imung gitrabahoan.

    bottomline is.
you started it right, you gained experience, you get tired of it...then you must end it right. and in this case never awol jud oie kay experience can give you an edge to the next company you're considering to apply and sakto man to nga if in time nga muapply kas imung dream company which is big company jud kay dream gud nya naa kay records nga awol ka, worst if matrack sa previous sss contributions, yatap jud. maquestion ka. and isn't more nice and great when you're about to be interviewd for the next job and then all you say about yourself is that you've improved and you've had experiences before on this and that, free flow lang imung answers sa questions sa interview. and ending ana..you get the recognition and for sure mas dako imung benefit and imung rank mas taas2 pa than what you expect. trust me. ing-ana na

i think the main reason why mag awol sa work ang isa ka employee is dili (na) sya happy sa (iya) work. for sure every employee na mag/nag awol valid gid ang ila reasons pra sa ila. depende lang guro na. personally kung muhawa na man lang ko, leave clean (resign ug tarong) na lang gyud as much as possible pra formal. pro pra sa uban na di na gyud makaya. kasabot man pud ta. wat if grabi gid ila kahimtang.. hehe
