Almost impossible to name all of the great players here (representing all music styles)... There are some great players posted so far. They all sound fantastic playing individually... but have you noticed that whenever you put 3 or more of them onstage at the same time for a jam, it's horrible! Watch any G3 dvd or any tribute-type concert dvd. At the end, they always jam an old standard RnR, Blues or a Hendrix song (or a lame rock tune like "Goin' Down") and it's never as good as any of these cats playing individually.

My submission (in no particular order): Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Eric Johnson, Monte Montgomery, Brent Mason and Wes Montgomery.

I'm not into highly technical guitar players.. I like the ones who serves the music and plays on what's appropriate for the piece without outshining/upstaging the frontman/woman.
