no, it's not that simple for Seagate Barracuda series IDE drives, the fine 80-conductor cable is needed to realize the ATA 100/ATA 133 transfer rates. and u cannot successfully install WinXP if u use the old IDE cable for CDROMs.
nah. i frequently installed xp succesfully in different IDE cables with no problems at all. i even tried many times a cheap P15 IDE cable connected to a hard drive and with no problem. in my experienced for years, i never had a problem using ordinary/cheap IDE cables and exchanging from CD-ROMs IDE to the hard drives. as long as its confirmed a standard IDE cable, and not telephone cable, its okay.
Nyeee, IDE cable sa CD-ROM dili na pwede sa HD oi. Sa HD mao na kato na pino og strips.Originally Posted by nitto1320i

Mao tingali naguba imo HD cause gigamitan nimo og kato IDE cable sa CDROM para sa imo HD.![]()
then how come i did this many times for years but with no problem at all?Originally Posted by akari
guess what you mean is the old 40-conductor cable and the 80-conductor cable for the optimized IDE HDD now right? if so, i gladly hands off with that.
nanga guba na ta tanan 100+ units nako if ingana man d.i

If the disk is on an IDE channel with another drive (hard disk or CD-ROM), then you should try the disk by itself on the channel. You may need to change the jumpers on the drive to do this, but you definitely need to try the drive without the complicating factor of another device on the channel. If the disk works by itself but not when set up with another drive, you may have a master/slave conflict. (Note that sometimes there actually is no conflict; the drive may not have been jumpered correctly, and you may have inadvertently fixed this when the configuration was changed).
